I'm finally planning on bringing Calvin to a race. Any other kid karts coming consistently? When we went once to watch, I think there was only 2 or 3 but that's better than none! Hope to meet some other folks at the event!

There is a good possibility that the Tillerys will not be at the race this weekend. Does anyone want to take care of lunch on Saturday? I can send you a list of items needed and help estimate the amount of food you will need. The club will reimburse all costs to you. Just need an able body to get the food and man the concession stand on Saturday. If there are no volunteers by Wednesday, we will declare this Saturday a BYOLandD race, (Bring Your Own Lunch and Drinks). KT:eek:

I plan on being there this Saturday for my first race in Masters. If any Director or Administrator happen to see this, I have a question: I see from previous posts on this forum that you have to have an Rmax challenge membership to race in the Masters series. I tried to apply for a Rmax challenge membership online, but it says that 2009 memberships are closed. Will I be able to race?
Charles Wright

I don't see how a membership can be required if you can't get one.

Sounds like you need a Presidential (Tillery) pardon.

We don't have any more Rotax points races this year, so you'll be fine to race the last 2 races without one. You will need a 2010 for next year.

Thanks Glenn. Now I just need to get enough lead added to my kart to make weight........

just out of curiosity, are our engines going to run very well with a high of 52 degrees? lol

The question about the engines being able to run at low day time temperatures is interesting.
Will us non-shifter karts be able to add tape to the radiators to help with the temperatures?
Charles Wright

If you have tape you can add it.
Jason if you need weight, talk to Shelton or I. We should have plenty.

yeah i'm bringing all my jets. i guess i'll be busy between practices sessions & qualifying. I just REALLY hope it stays dry.

Charles, I may need a couple more pounds, if you have a good size weight (3-4 lbs) with mounting hardware that you want to sell. I added 15 lbs to it today, so I hope I am close.
Also, any experienced Rotax Masters drivers want to give us a little insight on jetting I would love some advice on a starting point to keep me from playing with the carb all morning. My one and only practice session it was 70* and raining. I had a 165 in it, but the engine never got above 12.5k rpms, so I think it could have been lower. Even with the temperature drop I was planning on starting at the 165, or should I start richer?

Well if you are asking that question then it will run the best it ever has for you if you jet it right

In other words, yes the engine will run great at lower external temps. Lower temp= Denser air= more HP. If it's dry, I would expect some track record to be threatened or fall. Taping the Rotax radiator is legal and necessary to get optimal performance when it gets cold outside. To be legal, the tape has to wrap completely around the radiator and can't be removed while on the track. I try to get engine temp b/w 140-160, with ideal around 150 degrees.

yeah I know but i'm not sure how many tries i'll have to get it right before the race, guess i'll have to learn quick. Should I start the main jets like 3 or 4 sizes larger and go from there?

It all depends on the weather at the time. I believe you run an ICC/KZ? If so then you will probably want to change your tube and needle too. Those are pretty big part of the carbs for those motors. As for the main jet just check the piston crown and header to see how rich/lean you are. Obviously best to start rich and lean it out.

BTW... in the absence of any hard data on this Comer 50 engine, I am planning to run the biggest jet I have. Any thoughts or comments?

Mike,
The Comer 50 has jets?!?!
Glad this thread came back around to the kids! Rookie driver and dad planning on being there in the morning. I don't have any spares so we'll just have to run it as is.
It looks like it'll be cold but dry. I hope Calvin is tough enough for the cold!

I wouldn't get too worked up about jet for the Comer on Saturday. The stock jet that in the Comer 50 is a 58, and it is the richest of the ones that are available, the others being 52,54,56 I believe. The 58 should be fine for Saturday.

Over the season, I've accumulated 3 gallons of mixed racing fuel in my jug. So, in order to make room for the 2 gallons I'm having to buy tomorrow, I am giving 3 gallons of it to anyone that wants it, donations appreciated (LOL). Come see me in the morning!

What is fuel-oil ratio? I may buy some off you. Over-kill for a Comer 50... but saves me a stop at the gas station when I am already running late.
On that note... is the gas you folks buy at the track already pre-mixed with oil.
Thanks,
Mike

Another Comer 50 question... will the kart hold the track at WOT all the way around? I am tempted to tell Colleen just to put the "pedal to the metal" and hold on for the ride.
Of course... she will never trust me again if I send her off in the weeds...

It's 32:1. The fuel at BTK is not pre-mixed.

Comer 50 mix is different, 7-8 oz per 1 gallon. And I believe jets are 54-58 by 1.
Track is not all flat gas, even in KidKart. At least lift (if not brake) is needed in 3 places.
When Michael was first time there 4 years ago (you can still find on-board video), he was running just over 1 minute. Best I remember was 51.1 on YJL tires (hard).

Mike,
I can answer that after practicing with Calvin a couple of weeks ago - NO!! Feel free to contact me and I go into great detail about what I learned about WOT with Calvin! My email is in my profile.
