Is anyone running a 15 on the front of a honda powered shifter. I have a 16 now and I can hardly get into sixth gear before I have to start slowing down. I am shifting at 12,000 rpm. I let shelton run it and although he is 70 pounds lighter he said he did not get six gear to run all the way out.

I run a 16/26 and get Sixth right before the carousel. Its only about a half-gear pull if I remember correctly.

you may want to run a slightly shorter ratio around 1.65 to 1.67. being the hondas prefer the upper rpm range. Jason and I are running a 14/23 with our YZ's and we get a great pull through 6th gear to 12300 rpm (the peak rpm for a stock YZ-125 for good torque and power). We used to run a 17/28 which was the same ratio, but it made a huge difference going with two small gears. the difference in response was easy to notice. if youre not using all 6 gears on the track you're not utlizing all your power. youll have a better drive out of the corners and your gears will be closer together so you wont lug it off the corners.

Thats what I needed to know. I sometimes can not even get into six gear going to the carosel. The only place I seam to get into six gear is down the front straight for just a second. I am ordering some gears today. Thanks.
I need about a second to get even close to racing with the other shifter guys. I hope this is some of it.

Another thing to watch is getting a good launch coming out of the Creek turn going onto the back straight. It can mean the difference between 6th gear and getting passed. Shelton taught me this lesson really well with a good nudge to the bumper, that removed his front nose....:D

Thanks for the advise on the 14 tooth gear it made a HUGE difference. I was strugling to get into sixth gear and now it is winding out nicely. I ran one good lap and got it down to 35.72 and that would have been great but I could not average but a 36.5 lap times on it. Very inconsistent driving. Can't wait till we all get out there.
